Composts & Growing Media
Supplying your growing needs –
BARK
FINE GRADE
NURSERY GRADE
Particle size: 0-8 mm
Can be used in any rooting medium mix to encourage healthy
root initiation and ensure rapid root establishment.
Also suitable for seed, propagation and potting mixes.
Mix with moss peat or coir, adding the recommended nutrients
and dolomitic limestone.
Particle size: 3-12 mm
Can be used in any potting mix for containerised plants to
encourage healthy root development.
Mix with moss peat or coir, adding recommended nutrients and
dolomitic limestone.
Can also be used as a pot mulch to suppress moss, liverwort and
weed growth, and to help retain moisture.
VERMICULITE
FINE
MEDIUM
COARSE
Granule size: 1.0 - 3.0 mm
Total water-holding capacity: 419 ml/litre
Useful for aiding the water management of
peat composts as it retains water more strongly
than peat, so extending watering intervals and
making it easier to re-wet. The nutrient buffering
complements this water buffering action. Can also
be used as a seed covering.
Granule size: 2.0 - 5.0 mm
Total water-holding capacity: 381 ml/litre
Useful for improving aeration without impacting
adversely on water capacity or water retention. It
can also be used for seed covering.
Granule size: 5.0 - 10.0 mm
Total water-holding capacity: 322 ml/litre
Useful when higher aeration levels are required
without impacting adversely on water capacity or
water retention.
COARSE GRIT
GRIT SAND
SHARP SAND
SILVER SAND
GRAVEL
HYDROLECA
SANDS & GRITS
Nominal: 1 - 4mm
Uses: Top dressing pots, alpines and rock plants, cacti and
succulents.
All sands and grits are horticultural grade and lime-free.
Nominal: 0.5 - 3mm
Uses: Potting composts, cacti and succulents, alpine and rock
plants, improving heavy soils.
Nominal: 3mm down
Uses: Seed and cutting composts.
Nominal: 1mm down
Uses: Seed composts, cuttings.
Nominal: 6mm
Uses: Crocking and drainage, top dressing pots.
Ceramic pebbles with a smooth dense outer skin and honeycomb
interior.
Uses: Decorative pot topping, crocking and benching.
PERLITE
SUPERFINE
SPECIAL SEED
STANDARD
SUPERCOARSE
Particle size: 0.15 - 2.0 mm
Total water-holding capacity: 673 ml/litre
For maximum moisture retention with some
aeration and drainage.
Its ability to adhere to the surface of the peat
promotes wetting and the capillary movement
of water means that composts are also easier to
manage, wetting up easily and with uniform water
distribution.
Particle size: 1.0 - 3.0 mm
Total water-holding capacity: 476 ml/litre
For good aeration and drainage plus high moisture
retention.
Useful for improving the aeration of composts in
small containers e.g. for alpines and young plants.
Also useful in larger containers where improved
aeration is required without reducing water-holding
capacity.
Particle size: 1.0 - 5.0 mm
Total water-holding capacity: 275 ml/litre
For optimum aeration, drainage and moisture
retention in most growing media.
Can be used to replace sand or grit in potting
composts and container composts. Will give a well-
drained environment in large containers, promoting
healthy root growth.
Particle size: 1.0 - 5.0 mm
Total water-holding capacity: 225 ml/litre
For maximum aeration and drainage.
Ideal for potting composts for orchids, bromeliads,
tropical plants and bonsai. Can be used as an
alternative to Standard Perlite in large containers.
